Mrs Steelkitten herself - writer, blogger, crafter, chicken wrangler, wannabe smallholder, grow your own enthusiast and wife to....
Mr Steelkitten....postman, mechanic, model air craft enthusiast, vintage car restorer, professional welder, and all round patient, kind, good egg.
Mr Steelkitten came equipped with Sophie.....battered rescue cat, diva, matriarch, huffy, bossy, tuna-scoffing monster that dislikes anything that vies for Mr Steelkitten's attention...like Mrs Steelkitten.
Mrs Steelkitten came equipped with Fleagle....soft, heart of gold, dopey, bed-hogging, food-adoring, overweight tortoiseshell scruffbag that charms old ladies out of bacon scraps.
Together they then adopted Georgie....an stray, abused, half-feral, fun-loving, naughty little scamp with a cute ears, a button nose and sharp claws that he won't hesitate to use on poor defenceless bunnies and moles. And humans if they don't take "bugger off and leave me to sleep" for an answer.
Somewhere along the way they thought chickens were a good idea:
Oxo - top of the pecking order, domineering, tea-stealing little moo who loves eating the kitchen garden when Mrs Steelkitten's back is turned. She presides over the chicken kingdom which consists of Marybelle, Georgiabelle, Lulu and Dusty.
Somewhere at the back end of 2008, two fat hedgehogs made an appearance. Fozzie and Gonzo had the cats on edge for weeks but slowly they got used to the two little girls and the occasional nose prickle if they got too close. They were released in May 2009 and Gonzo went on to have a litter of her own in our compost heap, which we took in for fostering in October 2009 because they were too small. Twinkle, Blossom, Petal and Filbert were fed up and released early in 2010 and in October 2010 history repeated itself and we're now looking after Poppy and Primrose, this year's litter of babies from one of our fostered girls.
