I mentioned back at the beginning of June that our under counter fridge had given up and we'd been making do with a cheapo one found on ebay. Well finally I had the money together this week to purchase the new one. Because MIL finds it difficult to bend down, I wanted one that had a side by side fridge and freezer so she could have the top couple of shelves in each plus I wanted the extra space to store some of the jars of pickles I make, which need to mature somewhere cold, and sides of bacon during brining.
These big fridges don't come cheap, and I've been monitoring the prices of them for a few months. The Samsung one I wanted varied in price by up to 16% between retailers, which was quite a difference. So, I rang up AO.com customer services and asked them if they would price match the cheapest price I found, and they did. The deal you find has to be identical though, so exactly the same model and colour plus the same delivery specs.
Result! I snagged a 16% discount on the fridge freezer I wanted and it will be here tomorrow. I put it on my credit card to save a bit more with cashback. If I had a Quidco or Topcashback account I could have saved 2% more, although I've never had much success with either of those as we are not major consumers and use them so infrequently it is not worthwhile for us. So realistically, some careful hunting and good payment choices can result in a 20% discount.
Even better, AO.com run the price matching guarantee for up to 14 days after purchase, refunding the money to you if you find something cheaper, so it might be worth me having a little sniff around for the next couple of weeks to see if I can find additional discounts.
I'm not good with buying new white goods. I'd rather keep the money in my bank account. I worked out that the last time I bought a new fridge was in 2007, in fact, I think that was the only fridge I have ever bought from new. I get terrible buyer's remorse over new white goods for some reason, so this discount has taken the sting off everything.
As if it knows, the existing cheapo fridge has just started making the most appalling noises. I shall scream if that stops working before the new one arrives!

The new fridge freezer was in place and running by 9am Saturday morning and fully loaded by 10am. I am seriously smitten by the new appliance - so much better than what we were making do with.
That is worthwhile and a good discount. I am the same. I want my white goods to last forever rather than spend out! Shame they aren't built to last these days.
