I think you need more than soup after all that garden planning. I love your enthusiasm and I too can't wait for things to start happening, be a while for us in Scotland though. We bought some very light close meshed green plastic netting to protect our newly planted garden and it worked well, we attached it to the fence its still in tact about 10 years later. We also planted small leaved privet for hedges, all cuttings taken from my brother's garden so cost nothing. We keep it cut low, about 12 inches, though it grows quickly and its made a dense evergreen hedge that is often mistaken for box.
Our Italian planning application will be prospective, we are far too scared to go ahead with things and then sort out the paperwork, though many people do.
